Col Crochues to Col de Berard - March 2005
The route goes from the top of the Index lift at the Flegere ski field,
over Col Crochues and down the Gl. des Dards and traverses around the valley side.
There is a short climb to the Col. Berard before skiing down the valley to Le Buet.
There you get knee capped by the rope tow and have to run like a loon from the
train back to Chamonix.

Col du Tour Noir & Aig. Argentiere 3902m - March 2005
The col is a short route up from behind the Refuge d'Argentiere, the
cloud was coming down late afternoon. Second day we did the Aig. d'Argentiere
and skied back out. Much, much faster than walking out!

The Gross Fiescherhorn 4025m - March 2005
From the Monchsjoch Hut the route goes down the Ewischneefald Gl. to the
base of the snow slope between the two peaks of the Fiescherhorn. It then
traverses up the slope on skins to the final step section which is climbed.
From the Fischersattel col a ridge leads to the summit.

The Alphubel 4200m - March 2005
We did this as a day trip from Saas Fee car park by getting the first lift to
the Langflue Hut. From there the route goes up the Fee Gl. The whole climb
was done on skis and we skied off the summit. The route can be done by
descending from the top station of the Mittel Allalin railway. Watch out for
holes, I fell coming down and the poles when straight though into air when I
tried to get up...

Coming home we were forced to stop in Mulhouse, you can guess why. Theresa outside the hotel.

Silverettagruppe - April 2006
Photos from a six day tour we did in the Silveretta group of mountains at the
start of April. The weather wasn't the best and seemed to be coming from the
west so we went as far east as we though possible and still be in big mountains.
The trip took the folowing route;
Day 1 : From Ischgl to the Heideberger Hutter up the rat track, next time we would take the alternative!
Day 2 : Heideberger Hutte to Jamtal Hutte via Breite Krone
Day 3 : Hut day - it was snowing and visability was bad so we read a book...
Day 4 : Jamtal Hutter to Wiesbunener Hutte via the Dreilanderspitze
Day 5 : Assent of the Silvrettahorm returning to the Wiesbunener Hutter
Day 6 : Out to Galtur via the Bieltaljock
|
|
|
|
|
Day 2 : Theresa leaving the Heideberger Hutter on the way to the Jamtal Hutte via Breite Krone and the Kronen Joch
|
Day 2 : View of the Jamtal Hutte , the largest hut we have ever stayed at. We had room 129!
|
Day 4 : Leaving the Jamtal Hutte with Simon and Lindsey who we met the day before.
|
Day 4 : Lindsey and Theresa skinning up to the Ob. Ochsenscharle in early morning cloud.

|
Day 4 : Theresa (left) and Linsey climbing down into the final notch before the summit of Dreilanderspitze (3197m).
|
Day 4 : View from the summit of the Dreilanderspitze, cloud made for a spectacular view...
|
Day 4 : The ski decent from the notch were we left the skies before going to the summit.
|
Day 5 : Theresa approchinh the summit of the Silvrettahorm (3244m). So many mountains, so little time.
|
|
|
Day 6 : Looking back at the Silvrettahorm from the Bieltaljock above the Wiesbunener Hutter on the final day.
|
Day 6 : Mike looking down the vally from the Bieltaljock.

Saas Grund - April 2006
Week two saw us in Saas Grund to try our hand at some bigger peaks. Unfortunately the weather didn't
cooperate but we covered a lot of ground and will be better prepared for when we go back.

Theresa skiing though the trees at Sass Fee, a day spent using lifts to gain height :-)
|
On route for the Stralihorn (4190m) is the early morning sun.
|
Noon and the world went white, back at the skis after retreating from just below the summit.
|
Another retreat - you can see our high point on the Wiessmies (4017m), soft snow and no way though.
We went up to the Lagginjock instead.
|
Chamonix - Feb 2007
A weekend break in Chamonix with friends living there over winter got one tour and some
other off piste skiing on Le Tour and Les Grands Montets. Not bad for three days.
|
|
|
|
|
Skiing the back bowls of le Tour with Alan, it was all we could do to keep up,
Alan had 53 days on the hill by this stage.
|
Looking across from Le Tour to the next days objective the Col de la Terrassey (2828m)
|
Point on the track from le Couteray to the col where we could finally put on our skis.

Beyond the half way point, looking up towards the Col (1/4 the way in from left).

|
|
Skiing down though the Gourge de la Veudale to the Barrage d'Emosson (dam) at la Gueulas
|
Skiing over the dam, snow is piled high and there is a BIG drop either side.
The railing may not save you here.
|
Val D'Isere and Tignes - April 2008
A two week break with Max and with the grandparents at a friends apartment
in Val D'Isere. Complete with a time for a little bit of Hors Piste between rounds of baby
sitting.

The sign means what it says. We did a variant that avoids the gorge which WAS impassable!
There is a sign at the top of the last chair giving the status.
|
Decent headwall of Le Col Pers, the new snow at the top was a bit thin - and not that well consolidated.

A big day out
As a thank you for the blokes doing the cooking at the apartment we did a off-piste
morning that went from the Col de Fresse at the top of the Borsat chair, down
to the Grand Pre chair and then down the Tour du Charvet. The Mancett chair was then
used to access the Cugnai valley and the Fours Hut variant.
